Late Model Rules & Specifications
The rules are subject to change in the better interest of racing or safety.
changes for 07 are in
red
Eligible Models
a) This division is limited to 1980 through current
American manufactured stock car bodies.
b) Late Model Stock Cars MUST have type of car
displayed on body with 3" minimum letters.
Examples: Camaro, Monte Carlo, Mustang, Probe, T-Bird, Grand
Prix, etc.
Bodies
a) Nose and roof must match body style.
b) Floor boards and firewall must
cover the driver's area
and be constructed to provide maximum safety
c) Driver's seat must remain in the
same general area
as the general design.
d) Windshield screen or bars are mandatory.
e) Neatly painted number at least 18"
high is required
on each side of the car and roof.
f) No fins or raised lips of any kind
permitted
ANYWHERE, the entire length of car.
g) Body line must be a smooth, even line from front to rear.
h) NO slope nose/Late Model wedge cars. PERIOD!!!
i) Any Ford bodied car MUST use Ford
engine.
Example: Ford-Ford, Chevy-Chevy, Mopar-Mopar, etc.
j) NO belly pans or any type of
enclosure on bottom of
car is permitted. Skid plate to protect oil pan is okay.
Stock Nose Pieces
a) Two piece nose MUST be fastened together in center.
NO spacers to gain width allowed.
b) MUST be mounted not to alter original shape.
c) NO material can be removed from
nose piece.
NO cutting from bottom, top or sides.
d) NO adding to bottom at frontal area to achieve lower ground clearance.
e) Stock nose piece can extend a
MAXIMUM of 46" from
center of front hub to farthest point extending forward.
f) Front fender flairs MUST be made
of plastic and CANNOT
alter original shape of nose piece. Front fender flairs CANNOT
extend beyond front tire track width with wheels pointed
straight and must have collapsible support.
NO STEEL SUPPORTS
Roof and Roof Supports
a) MUST be stock appearing and mounted level.
b) MUST be stock dimensions.
c) 45" MINIMUM height from ground.
d) MUST be mounted parallel to body and near center of car
e) A MAXIMUM 1" roll (turned
downwards) is allowed along
the front edge of the roof. A MAXIMUM 1" roll (turned downwards)
is allowed along the rear edge of the roof. (Roll allowed to help
strengthen roof).
f) All roof side panels MUST extend
to edge of body, be flat.
MUST stock OEM size and MUST be of same make and model as nose piece.
g) Any sun shields (4" MAXIMUM) must
be able to hinge
for easy exiting of car.
h) Front roof supports CAN be no MORE
or LESS than
2" wide by 24" long.
i) If body style has rear windows,
roof sail posts MUST
be in stock location. Window location MUST be kept
open. NO lexan or filler panel allowed.
NOTE: Grand Prix-Ford, etc.
Front Fenders and Hood
a) Must be level and flat from left and right side.
b) Fenders CANNOT gain height from rear to front of car.
c) NO part of fenders or hood can be below outside body line.
Doors
a) At NO point can door sides break in towards center of car.
Quarter Panels
a) NO offset quarter panels. MUST be equally tapered
towards the center of the car. If quarter panels are not equally
tapered towards center of car a 50 lb. weight penalty will be accessed.
b) Tire clearance from body MUST be
at least 2".
NO WHEEL OR REAREND SKIRTS!!
c) At NO point can quarter panel sides break in towards center of car.
Frames
a) NO aluminum frames or front clips may be used in construction.
b) MINIMUM 103" wheel base.
c) The wheel base on all cars MUST be
constructed of 2" x 2"
MINIMUM rectangle or square tubing with a MINIMUM of 8"
circumference and a MINIMUM of .083" wall thickness.
d) TUBE FRAME OPTION: The wheel
base of all cars
should be constructed of a MINIMUM of 1 3/4" round tubing
and should have a wall thickness of .083" MINIMUM.
All tube frame cars should use 4130 Chrome Moly
Steel in construction of frame.
Roll Cages
a) Interior MAY BE dropped to the middle of the car NO
more than 3" below the top of the doors and MUST be
at least 12" below the roll cage.
b) Interior MUST gradually taper up
to the quarter panel height
and be level for 32" from rear of the quarter panel.
c) Interior MUST be fastened flush at
the top of the doors
and quarter panels and MAY taper gradually towards
the center of the car. NO creating a lip effect.
MINIMUM of 8" taper. MAXIMUM 3" drop extending from
firewall to rear of door pieces in a continuous line.
d) Interior MUST run in a straight
line from behind
the driver's seat to the rear spoiler.
e) If interior is flat through the
car, it MUST maintain a
12" clearance from roll cage for easy exiting from
either side of the car.
Spoiler
a) Rear spoiler MUST be manufactured of transparent
material of adequate strength, such as Lexan.
b) Rear spoiler material MAXIMUM 8"
height measured
from deck to tip of material. MAXIMUM 72" width.
c) Rear spoiler CANNOT be suspended
above the
deck to create a wing effect.
d) Rear spoiler MUST begin where
quarter panel ends.
NO extended decks.
Engines
a) Engines MUST be based on a factory design and be
naturally aspirated. Aluminum blocks allowed.
b) NO fuel injection devices,
electric fuel pumps, turbo
chargers or blowers permitted.
c) Magnetos are permitted.
However, the engine must
have an operating self starter.
d) The engine may be set back a
MAXIMUM of 6" from
the center of ball joint to front of the number one spark plug.
e) Carburetor is limited to one (1) four barrel.
f) NO titanium or exotic material
crankshafts or
connecting rods permitted.
g) ALL engines limited to one (1)
spark plus and
two (2) valves per cylinder.
h) Aluminum blocks are allowed, no
cubic inch limit.
Aluminum heads are permitted.
Fuel Systems
a) An approved fuel bladder and metal container (32 gallon
MAXIMUM)
MUST be securely mounted in the trunk area of the car inside a
20-gauge metal box supported by two (2) 1/8" x 2" steel straps.
b) A firewall MUST be installed
between the fuel bladder and
metal container and driver's compartment.
c) Fuel bladder container MUST NOT be
mounted lower
than bottom of quick-change rearend.
d) No pressurized fuel systems
e) Gasoline or Alcohol ONLY.
Nitrous gases or
other nitrate additives are NOT permitted.
Transmission and Clutch
a) Drive train MUST have transmission mounted on the
rear of engine and lead to one (1) drive shaft. NO direct
drive or in-out boxes permitted.
b) Any transmission with working
forward and reverse
gears is permitted.
c) Manual transmissions MUST be
equipped with
an operational clutch.
d) Automatic transmissions are permitted.
Tires
a) 11 inch
b) NO BUFFING OR SIZE OR LETTERING PERMITTED
Wheels
a) Steel, aluminum, carbon-fiber or plastic wheels are permitted.
b) Wheels MUST be mounted with lug nuts.
NO knock-off
mounting devices are allowed.
c) MAXIMUM wheel width is 14"
Brakes
a) Cars should be equipped with operational four-wheel
braking systems approved by track officials.
Jacking Devices
a) NO remote shock controls or adjusters. NO weight
jacks of any kind permitted (this includes 5th coils, etc.)
PERIOD!! ANY driver using remote shock controls or
adjustors or weight jacks WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!!
Exhaust
a) CANNOT point towards ground.
MUST be parallel to track.
Traction Control Devices
a) NO electronic or computerized wheel spin/traction
control devices permitted. ANY driver using electronic
or computerized wheel spin/traction control devices
WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!!
Safety Equipment
a) Batteries MUST not be located in the driver's compartment.
b) ALL cars should have an approved
fire extinguisher with working
pressure gauge securely mounted within the reach of the driver.
NOTE: A five-pound Halon System is recommended.
c) Nylon mesh window screens are required.
d) Racing seats and racing seatbelts
with shoulder harness are
REQUIRED and MUST be securely fastened to the car frame.
e) A drive-line sling is REQUIRED.
f) An approved racing helmet is REQUIRED.
g) Fire resistant uniforms are mandatory.
h) Fire resistant gloves, underwear and socks are mandatory.
Weight Limit
a) A MINIMUM weight limit is in effect.
b) ALL legal built cars MUST weigh a
MINIMUM of
2200 lbs. with driver after the race.
c) Added weight or ballast MUST be
securely fastened
and painted white with your car number on it.
d) Scales will be available at all sanctioned events.
e) The Speedway's scales WILL be the
official weighing
device for ALL racing events. Competitors MUST abide
by the Technical Director's decision.
Miscellaneous
a) Cars MUST be in good operational condition and be
presentable in appearance, subject to the judgment of
the inspection officials.
b) NO wings or tunnels of any kind allowed under the cars.
c) NO electronic or computer
controlled devices of
any kind permitted.
d) NO mirrors allowed.
e) Tow hooks are MANDATORY.
f) Wheel drapes and rear-end drapes
ARE PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES
g) Cars NOT meeting Port Royal
Speedway's specifications
WILL HAVE WEIGHT ADDED AT OFFICIAL'S DISCRETION.
h) Port Royal Speedway reserves the
right to change
and/or alter rules and procedures at any time.
ALL OFFICIAL DECISIONS ARE FINAL!!
i) NO radios are permitted.
NOTE: All dimensions are in the
drawings. Any nose piece,
materials or mechanical devices that are NOT specifically
mentioned in these rules are illegal unless or until they have
been sanctioned and agreed to by the Port Royal Speedway.
