To Drivers, Crews, Fans, and Officials at
Port Royal Speedway:
First of all I would like to thank
the Board of Directors of the Juniata
County Agricultural Society, for selecting me as the Track Photographer.
Art Rupert has been a fixture @ Port Royal for many years and I wish him
well in his retirement from active photography.
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Ed "Lugnut" Funk and I come
to Port Royal from Lancaster, PA. I'm not new to dirt track racing,
being born and raised in New Jersey I was bitten by the racing bug while
attending the now closed Flemington Speedway. I got my first taste of
being " where the action is" in 1977 where a high school friend of mine
ran a small block modified. I have shed blood sweat and tears over that
car and many others. I have driven small and big block modifieds,
crashed some, broke a few bones and repaired my share of wrecks.
I came to this area 21 years ago looking for a less expensive lifestyle.
I found that driving was not for me anymore so I took the route of being
a member of the media. I have served as track photographer at Airport
Speedway and Susquehanna Speedway. I have also freelanced at other
racing venues up and down the northeast from lower Delaware to the far
northern reaches of New York State.
It was at Susky that I had the opportunity to become a track official in
1998, which meant that I had to take a sabbatical from my duties as a
photographer. I worked my way around the track and eventually up to be
the assistant and then head starter. I officiated there till the
current management purchased the facility. I have also served in part
time officiating positions at various tracks including Rolling Wheels
Raceway Park in Elbridge N.Y. N.Y.S. Fairgrounds, Moc A Tek Speedway,
Bridgeport Speedway, Hill Valley Speedway and our own Port Royal
Speedway, As I am the assistant flagger when the current flagger, Pat
Snyder has other commitments. I'm no stranger to racing.
Now down to the purpose of this statement. I use the best photos that I
have for the track website. I try to use what I feel will
photographically will tell the story of a given event. If you the car
owner and or driver wish to have photos of your car or cars for the
purpose of securing sponsors and or providing photos to current sponsors
please feel free to contact me. My name on the track website is a direct
link to my personal website and there you will find my email address and
how to contact me.
I plan on attending early season events @ Hagerstown Speedway (for late
Model's) and Lincoln and Williams Grove (Sprint cars) I will be in
attendance for all of our pre season "Bug Days" I will try to have an
area set up in the rear (on the hill) of the pit area for you to bring
your car, driver, team etc for the purpose of having photos of your cars
before they get banged up during racing action. I will try to have an
assistant with me (my daughter) to take those photos in the event that
the demand is high as I'll be needing to take photos of ALL CARS IN ALL
DIVISIONS (single car shots from inside and outside of the track) so I
have photos ready for the season opener.
As of now I do this by myself, my daughter has her commitments and I
don't want to tie someone up who really enjoys going to the races
selling photo's for me. I will try to be all around the pit area meeting
and greeting each and every one of you regardless what division you
participate in, I feel that all of the drivers, crews and fans are my
clients. Each and every one of you is important to me. In keeping that
in mind I will have some photos to sell with me but I plan to set up a
special gallery on my website which will have all the photos from a
given event posted. They will not be of the quality you will receive
with a purchase as I will need to conserve server space and this will
also deter those who wish to steal images off of the internet... which
by the way is copyright infringement and is punishable by law. To
purchase photos you will have to contact me, email, home phone or cell
phone, and I will print the order and bring it with me to the next
event. Any special orders and or photographic projects are always
welcome.
I wish all the drivers and crews the best of luck this year and I hope
to see all of you in Victory Lane.
See you @ the Port
