Barry Camp to Be Honored as Port Royal Speedway’s 2025 “Living Legend”
Port Royal, PA -- This Saturday night, Port Royal Speedway will honor one of Central Pennsylvania’s most respected sprint car competitors as Barry Camp is recognized as a 2025 “Living Legend” during the 19th Annual Living Legends Dream Race presented by Mike Cleck Paving & Sealcoating. The ceremony will highlight a career defined by determination, consistency, and a deep passion for the sport — all in front of the fans who have cheered him on for years.
The Living Legends Dream Race is one of Port Royal Speedway’s premier summer events, created to celebrate drivers and contributors whose impact on the sport goes beyond the checkered flag while also putting on a marquee event for the local area’s competitors. Each year’s honorees are selected for their achievements, character, and influence on racing’s tradition. Alongside Camp’s recognition, the night will feature a $20,000-to-win 410 sprint car main event, super late model competition, and multiple fan giveaways.
Camp built a career racing against the fiercest weekly competition in the country. His ability to adapt, read a racetrack, and keep his equipment in contention earned him a reputation as one of the most respected and well-rounded drivers in Central PA.
“Nothing could be nicer than being honored as a legend at Port Royal Speedway. That’s the truth. It couldn’t be a nicer thing to do. There is no end to what it means to you.”
Camp has collected feature wins at Port Royal Speedway and other Central Pennsylvania tracks, while competing against some of the top names in the sport in the area’s storied history. When thinking back on his career, one of the driver’s favorite memories was his first visit to victory lane at the Juniata County racetrack.
“Leroy Felty was leading the race. I was following him, and I knew I was faster than he was, and I didn’t know how to get by him. Going into turn one and two, I watched him hit a hole in the track, and he did it two laps in a row. I thought to myself “If he does that this lap, I’m going to be leading the race and I’m faster than him so he’s not going to be able to pass me.” He hit that hole, I went by, and I went on to win that race. My first ever at Port Royal or anywhere!”
Over the years, Camp’s path crossed with many of the sport’s toughest competitors, leading to rivalries on the track and friendships off it. The one driver that came to mind for Camp was a driver who may be tough to beat, but Camp described him as the brother that he never had. That driver is the Man From Mifflintown Keith Kauffman.
“I’ve met a lot of good friends at Port Royal and a lot of them are drivers, including Keith Kauffman, he’s like a brother to me. He’s just a terrific guy. I could write a book on Kauffman. He’s one of the best drivers I’ve ever raced against. Doug Wolfgang is number one but Keith is right there with him.”
