Macri Picks Up PA Sprint Speedweek Night #3; Chase Dietz Wins URC 360 Feature

Port Royal, PA -- Port Royal Speedway played host to the third night of competition for Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek following rainouts at Williams Grove, Lincoln and Grandview so far in the series. With drivers from all over the country turning out for competition on Wednesday night, Anthony Macri would lead all 30 laps to claim the $10,000 payday.

Kyle Larson and Anthony Macri would make up the front row of the 30 lap A-main event. The two would jostle for position over the opening circuit, but Anthony Macri would come out with the advantage.

The caution flag would wave for the first time in the main event as Devin Adams, who was running in the seventh position, would lose the handle in turns 3 and 4 also bringing his night to an end.

Over the next 16 laps, Anthony Macri would lead the field through heavy lapped traffic with Kyle Larson following behind at a one second distance throughout.

The second caution flag of the night would come out in surprising fashion with 12 laps remaining as second place running Kyle Larson would spin on his own in turn two sending him to the tail end of the lead lap, which was the 13th running position at the time.

With Larson now further back in the field, Justin Whittall and Ryan Smith would inherit the final two podium positions.

As the field powered back to life, Macri would continue to lead over the next 5 laps before Brock Zearfoss would end up upside down in turn four bringing out the red flag.

On the ensuing restart, Kyle Larson would charge off the top side of the racetrack to get by both Danny Dietrich and Ryan Smith to get up to fourth before the caution flag would wave for Danny Dietrich who stopped on the backstretch due to running out of fuel.

The next restart would prove just as pivotal for Larson as he would get by two more cars to return to the runner up spot with 4 laps remaining and challenging Macri for the lead for the first time since the opening lap.

The caution flag would wave once again however as multiple cars would come to a stop on the racetrack due to running out of fuel.

With that caution flag waving, the track would utilize an open red flag stop to allow teams to refuel their cars as they neared 55 total laps on the track between green flag laps and laps ran under caution.

Under open red flag conditions, teams are allowed to refuel their cars and "Crewmembers may work on cars only with tools that can be carried by hand. There will be no tire or gear changes performed on the track unless informed differently at the driver’s meeting."

After the stop, Macri would power around The Speed Palace, holding off Kyle Larson, for the $10,000 win.

Larson would finish in 2nd and Chase Dietz would round out the podium.

"I don't know who was looking after us there but somebody was," joked Macri in victory lane. "These guys give me a good car to drive and it's just up to me to not screw it up."

In United Racing Club 360 competition it was the Chase Dietz show as he led 22 of the 25 laps for the $2,000 win.

Dietz would take the lead away from Adam Carberry off of turn 4 with 22 laps remaining and never look back for the remainder of the feature event.

There were plenty of good battles for position within the top 5 seeing names like Dylan Cisney, Mark Smith, Adam Carberry, Josh Weller, Cody Fletcher and Logan Rumsey all mixing it up for position.

By the drop of the checkered flag it would be Cody Fletcher in the runner up spot and Logan Rumsey rounding out the top 3.

PA Speedweek will continue to Hagerstown Speedway on Thursday July 3rd and return to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday July 5th for the Greg Hodnett Classic that will now pay $20,000 to win for the 410 sprint cars and will be supported by the Penske Racing Shocks super late models.
